Family Nursing & Home Care (FNHC) will be forced to cancel its annual Scarecrow Trail unless a sponsor comes forward to help with the costs of running the popular community event. The Scarecrow Trail had over 500 islanders take part last year and this year would be its fourth year running, but for it to go ahead, FNHC will be looking for a sponsor to provide around £1,000 to cover the costs of putting the event on.

This year twenty teams competed for the Richard Brocken Memorial Trophy, so named after the long time generous supporter Richard Brocken. Islanders who took part in Jersey’s first ever colour run helped to raise over £25,000 for Family Nursing & Home Care (FNHC). 800 people took part in the Dandara Colour Fun Run on Sunday 5th June, which saw participants being showered with coloured paint as they made their way along a five-kilometre stretch of the beach at St Aubin’s Bay.

Hundreds of Islanders spent the weekend hunting for scarecrows on 2nd and 3rd July, raising over £2,000 for Family Nursing & Home Care (FNHC). Participants in the third annual FNHC Scarecrow Trail, which took place along the Railway Walk from St Aubin to Corbière, were asked to vote for their favourite scarecrow and this year’s winner was a family team led by Emma Le Main with their ‘Jersey Royals’ creation.

Popular characters from films such as Star Wars, Frozen and Toy Story came together over the late May Bank Holiday Weekend (22nd – 25th May) the familiar figures were brought to life as scarecrows and displayed along the Railway Walk, from Corbière to St Aubin. Over 500 Islanders followed the Scarecrow Trail and answered questions and then voted for their favourite creation, and entered our prize draw. The number of legacies received during the year, which has traditionally been a major contributor to the Charity’s finances, decreased considerably during 2014. The Charity maintained a net incoming funds position for the year, despite a difficult financial climate, pressure on revenue streams and rising demands on services.

As NHS Scotland announces an additional £100million in funding to tackle the country’s current ‘bed blocking’ issue, recent statistics from Family Nursing & Home Care show that the charity’s Rapid Response Team has delivered 688 days of care in patients’ homes in just nine months. Since the service’s launch, the service has treated 167 patients, preventing their admission to hospital.
