FNHC poster competition to teach pupils about importance of school nurses By Louise Ferns on Wednesday 30 September 2015

Family Nursing & Home Care (FNHC) is inviting Jersey pupils to enter a competition to design a poster advertising the services and availability of their School Nurse.

The winning posters will be produced and displayed at each school to raise awareness of the School Nurse Service, which is employed by FNHC. Each school winner will then be entered into an island wide competition, with prizes being awarded to the best primary and secondary school entry.

Julie Gafoor, chief executive at Family Nursing & Home Care, commented: ‘The work of our School Nurse Service is not always understood fully by children and parents, and some pupils have been found to shy away from the service. Our school nurses are there to support the health and wellbeing needs of all school age children, and it is vital that they understand what our nurses can do to help them.’

Boots is sponsoring the competition, and manager, Mark Atkinson, will judge the entries in March 2016. First prize for both secondary and primary schools is a £30 Boots voucher and there will also be two runners up prizes of £10 in each category.

‘One of our team has been going into participating schools to deliver an assembly about the competition. The feedback so far has been excellent and 12 schools have already signed up to take part. We’d love to increase that number if we can, so if you’d like to enter your school then please get in touch,’ added Mrs Gafoor.
