Volunteers needed to support Jersey’s first colour run By Ivo Le Maistre Smith on Thursday 21 April 2016

Up to 100 volunteers are needed to support the delivery of Jersey’s first ever colour run.

The Dandara Colour Fun Run in aid of Family Nursing & Home Care is set to take place on Sunday 5th June along St Aubin’s Bay, and event organisers say there are a number of roles that need filling to make sure the event runs smoothly.

FNHC Fundraising Manager Ivo Le Maistre Smith, said that Islanders who aren’t taking part in the event as runners can still join in the fun on the day.

‘We have lots of volunteer roles on offer ranging from paint throwers, to race marshals and water station volunteers,’ he said.

‘If you didn’t buy a ticket for the Dandara Colour Fun Run then you can still get involved in the fun on the day as a volunteer. We already have some volunteers in place from our corporate sponsors, but we need many more to help throw paint at runners as they make their way along the beach, take registrations, marshal runners and hand out drinking water.’

The Dandara Colour Fun Run will see participants being showered with coloured paint as they make their way along a five-kilometre stretch of the beach.

The paint, which is made of biodegradable corn starch and comes in five colours, will be thrown from colour stations along the route. Each colour is being sponsored by a local organisation; the headline sponsor Dandara is blue, UBS is red, JTC is purple, The Enhance Group is green and NED Bank Private Wealth is neon yellow.

‘We believe there is just as much fun to be had as a volunteer as there will be taking part as a runner. As a paint thrower, race marshal or water station volunteer, you will be right at the heart of the action, either throwing paint or being covered in it as the runners go past. We need as many volunteers as possible to make sure the day goes as smoothly as possible, and we would be very grateful to anyone who can spare a few hours of their day to help out at what promises to be the most exciting community event this year,’ add Mr Le Maistre Smith.

Volunteers are needed from 10am until 2pm on Sunday 5th June. If you are interested in becoming an official Dandara Colour Fun Run volunteer, please call Louise Ferns on 444480 or email l.ferns@fnhc.org.je.
