Staff from Family Nursing & Home Care will be part of this year’s World Breastfeeding Week celebrations in Jersey from 1st to 7th August.
Over the last three years ‘Jersey Breastfeeds’ has been the focus of Jersey’s celebration of World Breastfeeding Week. The theme for 2025 is Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems. The week brings together parents, the business community, professionals from FNHC’s Baby Steps and Health Visiting Teams, community and hospital-based midwives, Public Health Jersey and representatives from States Assembly. Together the aim is to improve the health of islanders, provide education and support for breastfeeding parents, ensure that all families receive the best evidenced based information, whatever their feeding choice, and feel supported to breastfeed within the community.
Earlier this year Family Nursing & Home Care were delighted to be awarded the prestigious Baby Friendly Award and recognition from the UK Committee for UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI), recognising its excellence in supporting infant feeding and parent-infant relationships. To coincide with the start of World Breastfeeding Week, the official presentation of the award and plaque to FNHC will be made by a member of the States Assembly on Friday 1st August.
Debra Hennessy IBCLC and BFI Lead at Family Nursing and Home Care and Deborah McCoy Certified Breastfeeding Specialist Midwife at Health and Care Jersey, have also collaborated on a series of blogs to celebrate the week. Other events will include a Family Picnic in Howard Davis Park on Saturday 2nd August and a Breastfeeding Buddies drop in session on Wednesday 6th August at Coopers Café.
