Role details
The Team Lead role will provide professional leadership and be accountable for the management of the Health Visiting team. You will work with the Operational Lead to co-ordinate a range of multi-disciplinary services which will assist in the provision of safe, effective and responsible care to patients. Specialist knowledge and expertise in the management of clients and staff in defined clinical areas will be demonstrated.
This exciting new opportunity involves the operational management of services/community-based teams, including resource management and an awareness of budgetary constraints as well as the reviewing of clinical standards and the continuous development of evidence-based practice in the care of clients in the community. The post holder will be expected to play a proactive role in developing the relevant services through contribution to overall service strategy.
The post holder will be a key member of the multi-disciplinary team, giving advice and guidance to clinical staff at all levels, making and influencing clinical decisions, contributing to the Commissioning and Inspection process.
Key Accountabilities include:
Professional Leadership
- You will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the guidelines of the NMC and Code of Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice and Core competencies required for Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (HV) and apply these to maintain trust and credibility with clients/patients, carers and colleagues. You will make a significant contribution to service direction by demonstrating vision, innovation and ability to assist in the direction and leadership of your team in an effective and efficient way. You will balance clinical/managerial responsibilities, adopting a management style/structure which proves to be effective in performing both aspects of the role. The postholder will maintain a professional portfolio which demonstrates the continuing acquisition of skills, knowledge, attitudes, understanding and achievement.
Nursing Practice
- You will demonstrate excellent clinical judgement and will promote a culture of holistic client care through defining, setting and maintaining appropriate clinical standards. This will include developing and reviewing standard operating procedures. You will be responsible for demonstrating improvements and innovations in nursing practice brought about by undertaking nursing audit and by adopting and disseminating appropriate evidence-based research findings. It is expected that you will develop, monitor and review key performance indicators for service area taking outcomes focus on these indicators Supporting report development as evidence of outcomes for the Commissioning process.
Team Management, Building and Working
- The Team Lead will be responsible for building team commitment and coherence. You will build on existing team spirit by demonstrating the ability to inspire, motivate and lead. A key part of the role is to ensure that all team members understand the service objectives and their roles and responsibilities in achieving these. The post holder will develop and maintain collaborative working relationships and will encourage cross boundary working.
Resource Management
- You will work closely with the Operational Lead to meet the strategic objectives. This will involve collating, producing and presenting information and reports in a timely and appropriate manner. Also, supporting other key staff in this endeavour i.e. MECSH, Baby Steps and Baby Friendly Initiative. The postholder will be aware of the need to ensure cost effective and efficient use of resources working closely with the Operational Lead to achieve cost effective deployment of staff – matching skill mix to service need, engendering flexibility of working practices. There is a close relationship with Human Resources as you will will play a key role in recruitment and retention of staff, managing all relevant Human Resource procedures fairly and effectively developing long term succession planning.
